Help us understand our community's food needs and aspirations
We believe that no one, especially no child, should go hungry or be malnourished.
All tamariki should grow up surrounded by loving, thriving whānau within supportive communities.
However,
- One in seven children in Aotearoa experience food insecurity
- One in five households ‘sometimes’ or ‘often’ run out of food
Food security for all in our community, starting with our tamariki.
How we hope to achieve it:
- Work with Iwi, hapū and local communities to develop a local food security strategy and food system.
- Ensure children most at risk of food insecurity are prioritised.
- Ensure children attending school without Ka Ora Ka Ako School lunches or Fruit in School programmes have access to nutritional food.
- Ensure that young children (before school) have access to nutritional food
- Provide food programmes in the school holidays to ensure there is no “food gap” for children when schools are closed.
- Encourage local food supply and distribution.
